Emily Berner, MFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist (MFT81533) and partner at the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy. Emily specializes in treating anxiety disorders and behavioral concerns in children, adolescents, and adults, and she believes in clinical practice that is client-centered, effective, and empirically supported. Emily values the relationships she builds with her clients and brings creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor to her work.

Emily completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and attended graduate school at the University of Hawaii and California State University East Bay. After receiving her master’s degree in counseling psychology from Cal State East Bay in 2011, Emily joined the Santa Rosa Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, where she trained in empirically-supported treatments for anxiety disorders, depression, and in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for oppositional behavior in young children. She went on to train at the Cognitive Behavior Therapy & Mindfulness Center in San Ramon and expanded her skills to include treatment of ADHD and tic disorders.

Emily enjoys treating children as young as five years old, adolescents, and adults with depression and anxiety disorders including OCD, social anxiety, separation anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and specific phobias. She also treats skin picking, hair pulling, problems with attention and concentration, and challenging behaviors in young children, working with families to resolve behavioral challenges while strengthening and improving the quality of their relationships. Emily takes pride in offering empirically supported treatments for her clients including exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, and behavioral therapies. She also enjoys providing trainings to schools and parents and remains an active member of the cognitive behavioral therapy community, staying current on treatment advances and as a member of several professional associations.
